LyX - The Document Procesor
I do outlines for the show.  It's honestly the only way I can make it coherent.

By Star Trek: Discovery S01E07, I had them in a standard format.  I began posting them at that point.

I've also post the outline template itself.  You need to have LyX to use it.  LyX is a document processor rather than a traditional word processor.  It's far more flexible for things like outlines, papers (homework and otherwise), reports, scholarly articles ... essentially anywhere you're more interested in formatted information rather than style.

If you want to make fun flyers or High School reports with graphics, you should use LibreOffice.

If you want something where you can communicate text- or math-based documents, LyX can't be beat.  By using the right templates (of which there are many), it will automatically generate a Table of Contents, Bibliogaphies, Citations, etc.  It can output to a fantastic number of formats with no effort on the user's part.

If you get LyX and look at my template, you'll see what I mean.  Look at the information, then export to PDF.  It looks perfectly-formatted and includes appropriate page headings and footers without you doing a thing.

The next time you need to write a report for school or work, I strongly recommend LyX.  It's really rather amazing.

If you want to download it:
  • If you use Linux, LyX should be available in your distribution's standard repositories.

  • If you use Windows, you'll need to download and install it.  Get the biggest of the two files.  Download anything that might seem optional that you can find on the site.

Frankly, Windows' program management system is terrible compared to Linux.  Linux will install almost everything automatically; with additions available as you need them.  With Windows, you need to find and install everything.

  • If you're a Apple fan, you'll also need to download and install it.  Your program management is also good, so I doubt you'll need to kill yourself to install all the extras you can find.
